Rep. Vargas’ Statement on His Vote to Keep Government Open and Support Working Americans
WASHINGTON, D.C (September 30, 2022) — Congressmember Vargas released the following statement today after voting to pass legislation to fund the government through December 16, 2022:
“Today, I proudly joined my Democratic colleagues and voted to keep the government open and advance key priorities for the people,” said Rep. Vargas. “This legislation includes billions in relief aid for communities hit hard by natural disasters, especially in the wake of Hurricane Ian, expands resources to respond to water crises, and increases crucial funding for Ukraine as they continue to fight Putin’s illegal war. Working Americans deserve a government that provides vital services and responds to their needs. I’m committed to working with my colleagues as we continue to deliver for the people.”
This legislation includes:
- Billions in relief aid for New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Florida, Alaska, and other communities hit by natural disasters;
- $12.3 billion to assist Ukraine as they fight against Russian forces, including new security, economic, and humanitarian assistance;
- More resources to respond to the water crisis in Jackson, Mississippi, which threatens the health and well-being of many Mississippi families;
- Expanded funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, to help working families afford their energy bills as we enter winter months, and;
- More resources to continue resettling brave Afghan evacuees.
The bill now moves to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.
